Tf2 and validating

Reboot Re-login Delete your and start (ie login) again. Reboot Failing that, delete anything sounding like it is TF2 related from the appropriate folder where steam keeps (? Failing that, delete everything and start again (including the steam client)the ever elusive google search... It opens up the "prepairing files" window, that fades; Then it opens up a validating steam files window witch goes from 0% to 100% instantly, the window fades, then nothing. What im going to try and do is backup the game files via the property menu, delete local content, and then reinstall via the back up.List of things that did not work: reinstall; delete the .blobs; deleting tf2 folder and revalidate; Things im currently trying: backup content, delete local content, reinstall from backup. the only thing that seems to work, is following up the forced validation with a cache defragmentation...For a few months now, Steam has been validating my files whenever I open it. What exactly is Steam doing when it says that it is validating files, and why does it need to do it so frequently?

It instead goes to try validate the steam/tf2 cache, but once it reaches 100% it just does nothing and hangs. There's no actual problem with it, no actual bug, but the software that wants to police that software has utterly freaked the hell out and I can't access it. I was hoping to check out the new features, now I'll have download software I already had and hope Steam decides not to be an idiot anymore.Quick forum searches indicate the only real solution is uninstall the local content and reinstall. Update - Valve has made it clear to me that they are in no way responsible for actually delivering software via Steam. You're browsing the Game FAQs Message Boards as a guest. Try as I might, I simply cannot get the damn game to just let me play. That's exactly the problem; Steam won't stop verifying the cache. I don't have access to any TF2 maps in Gmod, so my guess is that something messed up when installing (I did get a random blue screen right the **** out of nowhere today when it was at 100% (with 100% apparently not meaning it's done) so that could be it). What I did:-Backup Local Files to an external memory drive-Delete all local content-Restore the back up-Play TF2Considering you reinstalled a bunch of times, not sure it'll work. I've already tried every other bit of advice I've run into, so what's to lose? 8 times out of 10, when i launch tf2, i get a popup box saying "validating steam cache files (0 of 1)" and also "validating team fortress 2 file (1 of 1)" so this status bars shows the very slow progress of the validating tf2 files until it reaches 100%. I see this random occurance when ever they push updates (50/50 chance of steam fucking up) Uninstall TF2, then re-install so that it can get fresh files....and/or uninstall steam to completely wipe the old files, and start from scratch.Closing it out and trying to launch again just results in the validation screen coming back up. I believe last or night before it worked just fine, but tonight it refuses to launch.
